unsatisfactory so far as the skin collection of the larger birds, stored chiefly in the wet basement, are concerned. This unsatisfactory condition is the result of causes wholly beyond the control of the Curator or higher museum authorities, the prime factor being the congested state of the collection which has far outgrown the space available for its storage, the difficulty moreover increasing at an accelerated rate. Everything possible, up to date, has been done to remedy the trouble, and considerable progress has been made in the re-arrangement of the collection; but the space is so much overcrowded with cases that work can be done only at great disadvantage, rendering its progress
