The birds are all Transition zone species of the prairie, with a trace of western forms coming in. The Burrowing owl was seen from the train in prairie dog towns near Walker, several Prairie falcons were seen & a Lepus campestris. I watched all the way for Antelope but saw none.

[[underlined]] July 30 [[/underlined]] Got a horse & rode south about 7 miles to edge of Grand River Valley & back, before noon. Took train west at 1:30 and reached Marwarth at 5:30. Went to Commercial hotel, which is not yet done so free from bugs. Took a tramp before supper

Until near the Little Mo. V., or to Rhame, it is all prairie, same as at Lemmon. Scattered settlements & towns & much open country. Good crops, mainly wheat, barley, oats & flax. Some corn & potatoes.
