Populus augustifolia grows along the streams up to 5000 feet when it joins tremuloides. The pen valley country is mainly Transition with a strong tinge of [[underlined]] Upper Sonoran [[/underlined]] species, such as  Clove integrifolia, Eurotia lanata, Artemisia lava, Hilianthus annuus, Ambrosia trilobata, [[?]] missouriensis, [[Ocygopsis?]] micrantha, & others that belong to both zones.

The Transition zone valley species are Artemisia frigida, & ludoviciana (white leaf form),
