[[underlined]] Butte to [[/underlined]]
[[underlined]] Aug. 21 [[/underlined]] Left Butte at 3:50 PM for Camas Idaho & Oregon Shortline. From Silver Bow South I [[spot?]] the Transition Zone Species on the same level with the valley at Butte, mainly sagebrush, Bigelovias and the general set of and transition zone valley species. Citellis aromatus is abundant all along the valley over to Big hole River Timbered mountains lie both sides of the valley but only a few Juniper are down on the foothills.

At the Bighole River the valley narrows, is winding and often with high close walls. The river is clear & swift & bordered with balsam poplars, willows and farther along a few douglas spruce & yellow pines & P. flexilis. Below the narrows Populus Angustifolia begins & lots of [[Kunzia?]] on rocky slopes.

At Glen Station the big valley opens out with a whole set of Sonoran plants, and for its whole length is covered with Citellis burrows. Saw one Eutamias pictus at Glen Sta.
