[[underlined]] To Missoula & Ravalli [[/underlined]] Sept. 4, Reached Missoula at 9 AM & saw Forest Service men, Greely & Kramer & Martin about Buffalo fence. Left Missoula at 2 PM. [[?]] begins halfway up the grade, the first Larix occidentalis – Gulch 10 miles below summit. Pinus ponderosa & Larix go over summit on warm slopes, but Pinus [[?]] & Pinea ^[[& a few Abies concolor]] go over on cold slope & down in canyons on both sides 10 miles or more. The yellow pine [[?]] on east side of RR over the summit is unusually fine & dense. Evaro is the summit Station. [[underlined]]Sept 5[[/underlined]] Waited for Mr. Cramer to come on 10 AM train but the train but the train was late so he did not come till 1 PM & we could not make the round of the pasture, so visited the proposed N P spur for unloading buffalo.
