Dear Mr. Newman:

Having done our best with your two paintings by Childe Hassam and Twachtman, I fear we will not be able to sell them for the time being at least.

We had only one favorable response for the Hassam, but the prospective buyers withdrew because of the price, and we were not able to obtain an offer from them.

I am very sorry not to have better news for you, but wish to thank you for the confidence you showed us.

Where would you like me to return the two paintings which we are now holding at your disposal?

With best regards,

Very truly yours,

(Georges E. Seligmann)
