Social Service---

The supreme effort of this Department is directed to the care of the eyes. This year shows many cases of sight saved and improved through operation, treatment, glasses and follow-up care.

These little twins, five years old, were found in a Public School Class by a Guild worker. They were hardly able to see, the opening in the eyelids of both children being less than half the normal size. The Guild gained the Parents' consent and took the children to an oculist. Operations were performed. Now both children can see by only slightly upturning their heads. Secondary operations will further rectify the condition.

This is a specimen of the unusual cases handled successfully by the Guild.

Hundreds of blind persons living in their own homes are visited, cared, and their entire conditions upbuilt, by means of regular pensions, medical care, nursing, supervision of the home and its budget, business advice, business loans and such other services as may be necessary.
