November 25th, 1940.

Dear Mr. North:

I just received your very kind note of November 22nd, in which you tell me that you received the paintings you so generously had loaned to the New York World's Fair.

Though I feel very flattered by the confidence you have in my integrity, I am very anxious - for your own safety - to have the pictures unpacked and inspected. The rough handling of the cases while in transit and many other things are beyond my personal control, and you yourself probably know only too well - being approached continuously for loans - how easily frames are damaged. Inasmuch as I want to represent the interest of the lenders in case that anything goes wrong and, furthermore, as we are winding up our affairs, I should be grateful to have your report as soon as possible.

It would indeed be a great pleasure to have an opportunity of welcoming you here at our galleries when you come to New York during the winter.
