April

May 1, 1959

My dear Dr. Palumbo:

I am in receipt of your letter of April 26th referring to a pastel by Pietro Rotari. In this connection it seems necessary to explain to you that, although Andre Seligman was my brother, he was at the head of his own firm which was completely independent from mine.

My brother died in 1945 and as his firm was liquidated at that time, it is difficult to obtain the information you seek. Though Andre Seligman had come over here during the war I doubt very much that he held an exhibition in 1942 as you suggest; and I am wondering whether this pastel, published by Dr. Fiocco in 1942, may very well have been seen by the latter in Paris where my brother had his firm on the Faubourg Saint-Honore - hence the possibility of finding the trace of this picture in some of the Paris libraries.

However, should I be able to identify the pastel here in New York and find a reproduction of it, I will be happy to advise you accordingly. I am sorry not to be able to be of further help.

Yours very sincerely,

Germain Seligman
