Four boxes, containing specimens and official papers, were packed and placed in storage.

Work was continued on the paper on Galapagos birds, as opportunity afforded, but much yet remains to be done.

Little time has been available during office hours for the new work on the birds of North and Middle America, but all the time possible to obtain for this purpose has been utilized. A special report upon the progress made in this work during December will be prepared and submitted separately.

A matter which may be worth mentioning in this report although properly not apart of the work of the Department of Birds, is the distribution of two sets of photographs of remarkable forest trees taken by the Curator (during his own time and at his own expense) in the lower Wabash Valley in Illinois and Indiana. These are valuable as representing remnants
