[[underlined]] Wednesday, March 14 [[/underlined]] Was cloudy and threatening rain. Yesterday was the better collecting day. Nevertheless we planned Fenner and I, to go out to rocky beach we had seen out [[?forward]] light-house as we were comming the harbor something like 10 miles from town. [[?And]] fare 5.00 each way, driver wanted 4.00 an houre for waiting, and would rather make two round trips at 5 each. Man to wait at less money. (5 out plus) 5 back = $10. [[?YS]] 5 out & 8 for 2 hrs & 5 back is 18.00 a saving of 8 to us. But like so many things a rate is a rate.* The considerable drive was through rather barren looking farm land, with small tree area, & skinny animals, scattered, cows, horses, sheep? & some goats - all looked pretty lean & bony, land was fenced though, were like mine & similar fence posts. There were several fine beaches en route and even rocks near light house weren't much yet we did get (Fenner did) couple of Lysmata (?) and I a few Xanthids all quite small, a considerable number of porcellanids, a number misc. invertebrates of various kind, but on the whole the pickings were poor. Lots of coconut palms along the route, and women working on the roads.

*After some shopping; mailing of notes and two films, we got off on our trip at about 9.30-10.00 instead of nine as planned. P.O. did not open 8:45. Bank where Al wanted go at 9.00 though business houses opened mostly at 8. In the place where we bought the [[?wadre]] [[?neeting]] met a large, stately, grey haired colored man of very light complexion & snow white hair who asked me if I knew a Nat. Museum entomologist who was collecting down here a few years ago. He could not remember the name, but said he'd look it up & let me know later
