Dr. C. Bernard Lewis, Director
Science Museum, Institute of Jamaica
Kingston, Jamaica, British West Indies

Dear Dr. Lewis:

I appreciate your interest in the matter of the firefly lamps and send you the titles of the two articles in which they were described in our Museum Bulletins. Bulletin 139, 1926, "Fire as an Agent in Human Culture" (See plate 32 and its description on page 198) and Bulletin 141, 1928, "Collection of Heating and Lighting Utensils in the United States National Museum" (See page 44), the articles which I mentioned, were written by Dr. Walter Hough. Let me know if you locate the articles. Otherwise, I will endeavor to get you copies here. I have not tried for I think papers published so long ago will no longer be available.

Here's hoping you turn up something about the lamps! How many interesting things that the natives formerly used are now gone and forgotten. That is the nice thing about museums. They save things of this sort for our wonderment in the years to come.

With kind regards to you,

Sincerely,

Waldo L. Schmitt
Head Curator
Department of Zoology
