Why are you here?

The mother said: I have brought the bird which you asked my son to get.

The sultan said: I shall now transfer my title to the boy because he is so intelligent.

The trusted servant of the king said: Do not give up your title so easily.  If the little boy can get the lady Putli-labaijawa, then give him your title.

The mother went home and began to cry.  The little boy asked her why she was crying.  She said:  I cry because the trusted servant of the Sultan wants you to get Putli-labaijawa and bring her to the king.

The boy told his mother not to worry.  After eating, he went out to look for the lady.  He walked over seven mountains, seven hills, and crossed seven rivers, and then he saw a house.  It was a very big house with many flags.  When he arrive in the house he saw kulantangans, drums, and agungs.  He saw rice in the pot and a slaughtered chicken in the frying pan.  Everything was prepared for eating.  While he was in the house he played the kulantangan, drumgs,and agung.  When he hit the drum, a voice came from inside the drum.

The voice asaid:  Who is that striking the drum?  Does he have no respect?

He looked around to see where the woman's voice came from.  When he struck the drum again, he realized that the voice was coming from inside the drum.  When he opened the rum, their were seven ladies in side.  One of the ladies was Putli-labaijawa.

When the ladies came out of the drum, the boy said:  Why were you inside the drum?

They said:  We were supposed to be married, but all our husbands-to-be were eaten by Sumaiyang-galura, a giant bird.  Our lovers hid us in[[strikethrough]] t [[/strikethrough]] this drum before they were eaten.

The little boy said:  Let us all eat.  I am very hungry.

After eating, the boy wanted to play the gongs [[strikethrough]] . [[/strikethrough]] with the 7 ladies.  While they were playing, the big bird came again.

The bird said:  Now there are [[strikethrough]] ate [[/strikethrough]] 8 of you, before there were only 7 of you.  I am going to eat you all.

They boy said to the big bird:  Don't you recognize me?  I am your grandson.

The bird said:  I am surprised.  I did not [[strikethrough]] yo [[/strikethrough]] know you were my grandson.  Please forgive me.

The boy asked the seven ladies:  Do you want to come to me to the palace of the [[strikethrough]] ki [[/strikethrough]] sultan?

All the ladies wanted to go, but one said nothing.  She was worried about her lover.

They boy said to the big bird:  We are going now.  If you want to join us, come along.

The bird said:  Yes I will come.
