Mr. [[underlined]] A.R. Wadsworth [[/underlined]] of Norbeck called on me today about a school near his place, saying that he would give the land and aid in the work. Said he knew you. I write you (in confidence) to know what you think of a school at that point, and what sort of a man he is. We shall help if everything is right.

Very respectfully yours

This lady, Miss [[underlined]] York [[/underlined]], comes to teach the school which was started by [[underlined]] Davis [[/underlined]]. She is quite a good scholar. She is from New Bedford, Mass. I trust you will aid her to get under way. The distance from her boarding place to the school is too much. (1 1/2 miles you wrote). Cannot you get her in nearer by. Or if you have another place which will be better for her put her in it. I have not been able to get a man. If the place at the Head of the Bay is better send her there, and I will try to get a man for the Davis school.

Very respectfully yours,

Dear Sir:
How is the land deeded at the "Swamp District." Is it for a school or for school and church. Is the deed on record? I send you the blank of deed which we wish used, or something

[[underlined]] Frederick H. Lawton [[/underlined]], Fairfield " " " " " " [[dittos for St. Marys County School began]]

I cannot give you the date for Mr [[underlined]] Lawton's [[/underlined]] school. He went down to aid in getting the building ready but was not to draw pay until his school commenced. I will inform you when I learn. He is a fine fellow. If you can give him $30.00 wish you would - if not $25.00 will do. Mr [[underlined]] Gregory [[/underlined]] expects $25.00 per month. Miss [[underlined]] Gove [[/underlined]] $20.00. I have waited for reports from two of the schools in Calvert County, then I intended to send in consolidated report to you. I shall see that you have full and correct reports each month.

I am disappointed in not getting the two men for Calvert Co., and Miss [[underlined]] K., [[/underlined]] right away. I thank you for helping as much as you have and hope you will do still more. I have several places waiting.

Very respectfully yours,
