Dear Sir:

You have returned papers about Swamp School, as you say, altered, but I do not see what you have changed. I send you such an estimate as I think ought to be made. If you will make it I will approve it and forward to Genl Howard.

I want a few good colored teachers, men and women. Have you not some in Baltimore? whom you can recommend? Please reply immediately. Cannot you help us in paying teachers? I have six places now waiting. The houses are now done and the people will pay board and incidentals, [[underlined]] but they cannot do more. [[/underlined]]

The amount of lumber already furnished has cost us $103.31.

I am requested by Genl. [[underlined]] Howard [[/underlined]] to say that the balance due will be paid "as soon as the house is so far completed as to give reasonable assurance of its being finished before the 16th of July next." I myself hope you will have it done long before that time. Do not doubt but that we will pay the whole amount. All we want is to have the building well on toward completion first. Mrs K. writes with me in regards to you and yours.

Very respectfully yours,

If you complete that trade before the lot of July you may be sure that we will help you to the amount of $250.00 as we have promised, but we cannot help you until you get a good title. I hope you will not fail in this matter. We are not troubled about any changes that will prevent our making our word good.

Very respectfully yours
