Dear Sir:

I am going up into Maryland next week, and want to know what schools you have or know about, in Washington and Alleghany Counties. Will you be kind enough to reply tomorrow and thus much oblige? I have not seen those two teachers, (either of them) about whom you wrote me.

Very Respectfully, Yours

Dear Sir:

The colored people should form themselves into a School Society and elect five trustees, (it would be well to have a white man on the board, yourself if you please). Then if you will deed the land to them, and they will raise money to put up a School House (with our help), we will help to the amount of $250,00 or about that sum. That will pay for all the lumber except the large timbers, such as sleepers, rafters, sills, plates and corner posts, which should be obtained near by for a house 20x32 ft. the usual size of our houses.

Very Respectfully Yours.
