I am not strenuous about the tobacco; neither about the particular form given in the Manual. The great idea is to get up a temperance society to stay this horrid whiskey-drinking, which is ruining the people.

Very Respectfully Yours

Sir:

Your letter from Benedict is before me. I hope you will not spend much time in Calvert Co. I wrote you about this a few days ago. A good deal of work is needed in Charles co. and some in Ann Arundel Co. Then I have considerable for you in Prince George Co. and Montgomery Co. I want to get all the school houses that are under way, done without delay; then we will talk about more new ones. I have sent the lumber to Nottingham.

Very Respectfully Yours

Sir:

I have sent the lady another way. I now have a young white man who appears to be a very good fellow, and who will come cheap. What do you think of those persons living down there? It is almost impossible to get a good colored teacher. If they are the right sort it is very well to employ persons living in the County. Write me what you think about my sending a white man, immediately.

Very Respectfully Yours,
