I send you letter from Mr. [[underlined]] Gregory, [[/underlined]] who wants to leave. I recommend that you take his substitute, if you are willing to continue the school through the summer; otherwise that you close the school on the 1st of June.

Mr. Gregory is a very worthy colored man.

Dear Sir:

A colored woman named [[underlined]] Maria Glasgo [[/underlined]], living at Moodville, Prince George Co. writes me that you have a claim for her, for bounty due, as her husband died in the army. She wants the money, if any is coming, in order to send her children to a school which we have just started

at Woodville and she wants me to help in the matter. Will you please write me how the matter stands? What was her husband's name, and to what Regiment did he belong? Is the claim in the hands of anyone in Washington? We[[?]] some facilities for helping on these matters.

I sent your receipt to the Pa. Society, which employs you, and this morning have their reply. They will close your school on the 1st day of June, and wish you to stay until that time. I hope you will do so. They do not wish to take a substitute for so short a time.
