Dear Sir:

I have not requested Genl. [[underlined]] Howard [[/underlined]] to pay your assistant as I think we are doing all that we ought for Charleston, now. You must take what scholars you can teach yourself, if the School Board will not aid you. You understand the position of things at Brook's Hollow, and will do what you think best in the matter. We do not aid in building school houses which are to be sold for other purposes.

Very Respectfully Yours,
