Genl. Howard and myself will be at Port Tobacco on Saturday, and intend going from there to Woodville for a meeting on Sunday:  then shall return through Horse Head, and Nottingham.  Will you meet us at one of these places?  I have already written you to come here, about the houses in Montgomery County, but find you do not get my letters.

Major:

I respectfully ask that material to build a colored school house near Poolsville, Montgomery Co. Md., be sent to the care of [[underlined]] John Adams, [[/underlined]] Barnesville Montgomery Co. Md. as follows, viz:

23 ceiling joists, 20 ft. long 3 x 5
75 joists 12 " " [[dittos for ft. long]] 3 x 4

100 ft. of joist 3 x 4 for Porch, gable-ends &c.
2000 ft. 1/2 inch pine boards for siding
700 ft. hemlock boards for sheathing
3200 cypress shingles, No. 1.
1000 ft. yellow pine boards, planed for wainscotting and flooring
1 door and frame.
6 window frames and sash.
1500 ft. white pine boards, for desks and seats.
400 bricks

The material should be sent by Mr. [[underlined]] Fletcher's [[/underlined]] canal-boat, which leaves Georgetown next Monday or Tuesday, and landed at Edward's Ferry.  Mr. [[underlined]] Adams [[/underlined]] should be informed of the shipment of the lumber.  The people have bought the land for a school and are ready to put up the house immediately.  There is a large number of colored children in and about Poolsville, and the house is very much needed.
