A letter from Smith at Pisgah, received this morning, says that they have no stove or chimney; that the house is not plastered and that the people want clothing for the children. I wish you would set matters right. They must fix the house or the school will close; and they must make a full school.

Respectfully yours,

You told me, I think, that you would send a teacher, Miss [[underlined]] Watson, [[/underlined]] to Darlington. I had a letter yesterday saying that no teacher has come yet. Will you send her on? Were you expecting me to do something in the matter?

Respectfully yours,

I am ordered by Genl [[underlined]] Howard [[/underlined]] to say that having aided you to the amount of over $550. we cannot do more for you; but expect, as I wrote before, that you will complete the house without delay. If your house is not ready better commence the school in the church, where, I suppose, you have had it heretofore.

Send me a copy of the deed of the lot upon which the school house stands, and the amount paid for it.

Very respectfully

Sir: Your letter of the 24th instant just received. You think that certainly three houses in each of the three (3) counties now passed through should be built. Will you mention the three places in each county which you think most important. You have written about several and I have received letters from the people in some of the places. I want you to state (1) the exact condition of the houses already built by us. I think you have a list of them. And send (2) a copy of the deed of each lot of land; and (3) the amount of debt on land or house. (4) how much the people have paid for house and (5) school. (6) how long school has been in operation, from ––– to –––. Also (7) state the location of house, and post office of head trustee.

Respectfully yours,

Please send me papers of Mr. [[underlined]] S. A. Douglass, [[/underlined]] Springfield, Mass., references &c. I have written to him and he wishes to teach. You have, I believe, papers which will tell me if he is all right.

Respectfully yours,

I have just sent a letter to [[underlined]] Charles Johnson, [[/underlined]] telling him to meet a teacher (lady) who is coming to Fort Washington next Saturday by the Steamer "Arrow". I am afraid he will not get the letter. It is sent to Piscataway. Will you or [[underlined]] Waters [[/underlined]] see that he gets the letter and that the teacher is sent for.
