I have received notice from the 2'd Auditor that $110,000. are to be placed in my hands for "fulfilling treaties with Indians &c." and have received already a Treas. drft for 10,000. which I now send over by Maj. Brooks U S Army.

   Having to transport and move so large an amount from place to place, I have written to Washington for authority to draw it all in Gold  meantime I respectfully request that you will please send the amt. of the present draft, by Major Brooks, in gold.

        & oblige Sir:

Sir,

I have recd the following Treasury Drafts payable to my order by the [[?]] [[?]] U.S. [[underlined]] N. York [[/underlined]] No. 793 to No. 795 Int. Warrant No. 755 for $20,000 each  $60,000.
796 to 799 Int. W " [[ditto for: warrant]] " [[ditto for: for]] 10,000 " [[ditto for: each]] =  40,000
and I herewith return them to the Treasury US

Sir,

By the last mail I recd. from the Treas' [[?]] [[?]] Drfts payable by the [[?]] Trea US[[underlined]] N. York[[/underlined]] amounting to one hundred thousand [[Dols]]

The money is required [[underlined]]here[[/underlined]] & in [[?]], us early as [[possible]]; and as these drafts can not probably be cashed in Norleans at this[[?]], [[underlined]][[?]][[/underlined]] I have requested Gen Twiggs to send a [[?]] with this communication.

I have to request that an officer or a spec. agent may be sent or at once with the money, and [[?]] he will find transportation & an escort to bring the funds [[?]] the [[?]] & an office to receive it.

Meantime the General will [[?]] other [[?]] departments here to [[?]] [[?]] funds to me as [[far/fast?]] as they can —
