Maj Gen R Jones
[[?]]

Sir,

By the present xpress I forward to you letters for the Honble Secty of War & the Trea' of the U.S.

The drafts sent to me for funds are not available, & I have to return them.

I have also requested that money gold—not draft be forwarded at once.

It is unnecessary for me to add any thing on the importance of being able promptly to comply with promises to the first Indians coming in for [[?]]

Indeed not a step can be taken until the money is here.

Colonel:

I inclose a roll of Florida Indians going over in the Fashion to New Orleans barracks under charge of Major Holmes.

They will be rationed by the Subsistence Dept. and issue the following articles.

Corn, Flour, Rice, Pork or Bacon, F.Beef, Molasses, Soap, Salt.

They rarely use half. rations of salt meat. and but half rations of Soap and Salt.

Issue extra quantities of Fresh Beef. and let the ration of rice[[underlined]]in lieu of Flour[[/underlined]]— be at the rate of 25 to 35 lbs to 100 rations.

Issue occasionally a little tobacco to them.

They will have been paid for their hogs &c &c and have received their [[underlined]] migration money[[/underlined]] before they leave this State

I have requested their head man to make [[underlined]]a law prohibiting[[/underlined]] them from expending their [[underlined]]money en route[[/underlined]] for their new homes. as it will be required by them for an out-fit or rather [[underlined]]infit[[/underlined]] in their new country in Arkansas.

I will not presume to add any suggestions to me of your experience as to care of those[[strikethrough]]Indians[[/strikethrough]] people who are like other Indians. grown children; but it may not be superfluous to say that they are more jealous of interference with their women than most Indians and [[blank space]] the necessity of strict order to restrain the Soldiers & others.

On or before next shipment the Genl. will issue orders in relation to transportation to Arkansas.

Most Respectfully
Your obedient Sert
