[[underlined 1848 Dec 16th [[/underlined]] He enjoined secrecy as he feared the power of the [[hader?]] & his partners. He would of course go a pilot with me, but regretted to see me go -to- certain failure.

[[underlined]]Dec 24th. [[/underlined]] Land at the store Ch Hrbr at 12 N. this reaching the [[?]] in time - I had sent broken days to [[underlined]] Bowlegs, Jones, G Maktee [[/underlined]] etc etc before for [[underlined]] Christmas day [[/underlined]] - No Indians yet come

At dusk [[underlined]] Fuss Hatchee Emathla [[/underlined]] comes in and makes excuses for Bowlegs non-appearance - His child is sick etc and such nonsense

[[underlined]] Decr 25th [[/underlined]] †mas Monday. [[underlined]]F. H. Emathla [[/underlined]]says that in 5 days from toomorrow Bowlegs will be in & perhaps Slone sooner!

[[underlined]] Decr. 27th [[/underlined]] FHE. returns Has been to Caloosa Hatchee has seen no one! brings in some stray hogs

[[underlined]] Decr.28th [[/underlined]] 2 mikkasockee woman, a boy & child in a wikk; man  [[underlined]] Osan Hatkee [[/underlined]] in from Kissimmee  He has been long hunting outside & brings skins to sell.  He heard [[underlined]] en route [[/underlined]] that Billy Bowlegs Sam Jones Assunwah & Pohay Hajo were all coming here to meet Mr. Casey tomorrow or next day.  He had seen no one here before telling this [[underlined]] news [[/underlined]]I had [[underlined]] not [[/underlined]] got [[underlined]] his [[/underlined]] talk prepared beforehand. obviously

[[underlined]] Dec. 29 [[/underlined]] F.H.E. again returns from an absence of one or two days - [[underlined]] says [[/underlined]] he has seen no one - (a lie)

[[underlined]] Dec. 30 Assunwah [[underlined]] and 7 men march in. After the usual salutations he ask "Where is the [[underlined]] Large [[/underlined]] man?" meaning [[underlined]] little [[/underlined]] one (T.P. Kennedy the trader) - I thought he was to come with Mr. Casey!" His CS was too sore - he could not come." Oh! - Ho!

In reply to my questions he said he had not seen Billy or Sam, but that they will be in tomorrow!

[[underlined]] Decr. 31st Assunwah [[/underlined]] says Billy will be in tomorrow  He asks what is in the boxes I brought with me & my interpreter (Capt John) says presents for my friend. "are they the property of Mr Casey or of the U.S. because if the latter we will not accept a thread." John told him he tho't they were mine.  "In that case" said A. "We shall cheerfully accept any thing from an old friend - any one may - that is not unlawful"
