Major,
I have received your letter of the 24th, and regret to find that there is again a deficiency of transportation. Captain Sibley informs me that a small train of wagons - say 40 - will be ordered up immediately, and you will call on Capt O'Brien for transportation for the balance of my minimum estimate still due. (say 35 wagons)

Please substitute for the balance of [[underlined]] Bacon [[/underlined]] (7000 lbs) on that estimate say 6 or 7000 lbs [[underlined]] Rice [[/underlined]] if you have good Rice on hand - and if there should be plenty of transportation (which I do not anticipate) [[underlined]] add [[/underline]] instead of [[underlined]] substituting [[/underlined]] the above amount of Rice, and then as many full rations as can be forwarded.

The surplus which had been collected here being nearly gone, we shall require from Carmargo here after say 150,000 rations per month or [[underlined]]210. W225 [[/underlined]] wagon loads.
Very Respectfully
Your Obdt Servt

Major

On Dec. 30th I wrote to you in reply to your letter of the 24th of Dec. and I have not heard whether any transportation has since been furnished to you.

To complete the rations now here and at Saltillo I require say.
107.000 rations of Flour or Gross weight 122.515 lbs.
100.000 " [[ditto for rations of]] Rice " [[ditto for or Gross weight]] 10.200 "[ditto for lbs]]
118.000 "[[ditto for rations of]] Coffee "[[ditto for or Gross weight]] 7.198 "[[ditto for lbs]]
136.000 "[[ditto for rations of]] Sugar "[[ditto for or Gross weight]] 16.688 "[[ditto for lbs]]
100.000 "[[ditto for rations of]] Vinegar "[[ditto for or Gross weight]] 10.700 "[[ditto for lbs]]
300.000 "[[ditto for rations of]] Candles "[[ditto for or Gross weight]] 4.300
230.000 "[[ditto for rations of]] Soap "[[ditto for or Gross weight]][[underlined]] 10.810 [[/underlined]]

[[underlined]] Gross weight of lbs 182.611 [[/underlined]]

Which at 1800 lbs per wagon will require over 100 wagons. say 101. I am informed at the Depot here that many of the wagons have much less than 1800 lbs of Subs: in them tho' nominally loaded with subsistence.

The train which goes down to morrow is to return as soon as possible and you will after filling the above requisition forward as many subs: stores as the Q.M. can transport.

Forward Pork and Rice in lieu of the Bacon & Beans and after sending the Bread called for on my requesition of Dec. 6 (20000 rations) forward Flour exclusively until otherwise estimated.
