General,

I transmit a copy of a letter this day addressed to the A.C.S. Norleans which, I hope, will meet with your approbation. On Aug. 10, a compy. of Mtd. Vol: (50), under Capt. Dell arrived here and on Aug 11. an other Mtd. compy (71), under Capt Wm. Fisher, arrived.

Both are under the order of the Govenor of this state and as yet have not drawn rations nor been mustered into service.

The question of feeding them is, for the present, settled by the want of subs. stores here, and they must draw on the country which is but scantily supplied.
Most respectfully
Your obedt. servt

P.S. The whisky is kept in a separate room of which I keep the key. On returning from breakfast my asst perceived a strong odor of whisky in the store and came and reported it, but by the time the keg was procured from my room and the liquor room opened the entire Bbl had run out on the floor.

Lieutenant,
I enclose a copy of my requisitions of Aug. 13/49 for say, 20,.000 rations.

You will probably receive this copy before the referral, and I have now to request that you will suspend for a time the purchase and shipment of these 20.000 rations, as I find these in, and will be, a great want of storage here.

I neclose dup. recpts for stores received by [[?]] Gatsmer, and invoiced by yr July 27.

Very resplly
