Bv Capt I.M. Brannan
AAAG Hd Qr 5 Mil Dept.

In reply to your letter of today enclosing a letter from Bvt. Lt. Col I.H. [[Wrude?]] 1st Arty Comdg. Ft Myer dated June 21 1852, I have the honor to report for the information of the Genl. Comdg. the Dept that for about 12 months the A.C.S. at Ft. Myers has reported or "on hand" [[underlined]] 20 Kegs of pickles [[/underlined]] and during that time none have been issued to or bought by the troops at that post

As the troops at Fort Meade ask for pickles - having eagerly purchased a few kegs sent out to them - I ord.d the ACS at Ft Myers to send up 10 or 12 of the 20 /of on hand, if they [[?]] on exam to be soured unfit for issue, and if they did not seem to be good to call for a Board of [[?]] Lt. Dickerson the A.C.S. reports to me June 22. that "they have been condemned to be destroyed"

This is I believe, an entire explanation of an "order to make a material diminution of the subsistence stores at this post" (Ft Myers)

Very Respectfully
