States that he was not able to obtain board in a white family, and is boarding with a colored family:-  that the whites are trying to freeze him out but he is determined to remain.  States that he has opened a day, night and Sunday school.  Requests information as to what provision has been made for his salary.

4/14-68. | 14 * Johnson, Jerome. | Upper Marlboro, Prince George Co. Md.  April 12th 1868.  States that he arrived at Upper Marlboro on the 11th inst. and is boarding with Mr. [[underlined]] Bolling:- [[/underlined]]  that he has organized a Sabbath School, and addressed a congregation of about four hundred colored people on the subject of education:-  that the colored preacher and himself are about to organize a temperance movement, of which there seems to be much need:-  that there is a feeling of bitter hostility on the part of the whites against colored schools.

4/18-68. | 15 * James, Wm. V. | Parker's Creek, Calvert Co. Md.  April 14th 1868.  Requests to have sent him, some teacher's Blanks and Envelopes.

4/28-68. | 16 * Johnson, E.A. | Sharpsburg, Md.  April 25th 1868.  Acknowledges receipt of letter of the 8th inst.  States that he will forward five dollars which he owes the Supt. of Education, as soon as he receives his money from Col. [[underlined]] Corson. [[/underlined]]  States that he is very anxious to keep his school in operation, but will not be able to do so if he has to depend wholly upon the colored people for his support.  Requests information as to whether there are any more favorable prospects for him, as teacher, in any of the southern States, and if so, how he can reach the field of labor.

5/6-68 | 17 * Johnson, J.A. | Upper Marlboro, Prince George Co. Md.  May 4th 1868.  Encloses School Report which was returned for correction

5/13-68. | 18 * Johnson, E.A. | Sharpsburg, Md.  May 11th 1868.  Desires to have the Supt. of Education D.C. visit his school.  States that his school is small at present, but will be more than doubled during the cold seasons of fall, winter and spring, and he thinks it very important that his school should be kept up.
