1.18.69. | 103. * Wilmer, Dr Wm. R. | Port Tobacco, Charles Co Md.  Jany. 15th 1869.  Received letter of the 13th inst. in relation to [[underlined]] Smith's [[/underlined]] Draft.  States that he has not received it although he wrote to the Post Master at Pisgah about it some time ago, and has just written again.  States that Miss [[underlined]] Martha L. Swan, [[/underlined]] teacher of the Port Tobacco school has taught three months ending Dec. 31st but has received only two checks &c.  Declines appointment as teacher.

1.19.69. | 104 * West, Miss F. | Rockville, Montgomery Co Md.  Jany. 17th 1869.  States that she has arrived at Rockville but cannot proceed to Poolsville on account of bad roads, except by private conveyance which will cost from five to ten dollars.  Requests to have the money advanced.

1.23.69. | 105 * West  Miss F.K. | Poolsville, Montgomery Co Md.  Jany. 20th 1869.  States that she has arrived and intends to open school on the 25th inst.  Requests to be furnished with teacher's blanks and register.

1.27.69. | 106 * Wilmer, Dr. Wm. R. | Port Tobacco, Charles Co Md.  Jany. 27th 1869.  Thinks there is something wrong at Pisgah Post office in the detention of [[underlined]] Smith's [[/underlined]] letters but is pleased to learn that the one containing the money has been returned.  Requests to have the $5.00 due him from [[underlined]] Smith [[/underlined]] sent by mail.  States that Miss [[underlined]] Swann, [[/underlined]] teacher, has not received check for last months salary &c.

2.1.69. | 107. * Williams, Wesley | Salisbury, Wicomico Co Md.  Jany. 29th 1869.  States that the people here desire to have a teacher sent them as soon as possible.

2.6.69. | 108 * White, W.R. | Wheeling, W. Va.  Feb. 4th 1869.  States in reply, that he knows of no [[strikethrough]] vancancy [[/strikethrough]] vacancy which he can recommend:  that Mr. [[underlined]] H.W. Arbogast, [[/underlined]] Mouth of Seneca, [[underlined]] needs several teachers for his County, but he cannot say what he would pay.  Encloses list of towns &c.

2.13.69. | 109. * West, Florence K.  Teacher | Poolsville, Montgomery Co Md.  Feb. 9th 1869.  Encloses her school report for January.  States that she has a night school, not reported.

2.17.69. | 110 * West, John W.  Teacher | Wheeling, W. Va.  Feb. 15th 1869.  Forwards his school report.

2.23.69. | 111 * Witmer, P.A.  Secy. Bd. School Com'rs. | Hagerstown, Washington Co Md.  Feb. 20th 1869.  States that they have a colored school at Williamsport which numbers 41 pupils, and is taught by [[underlined]] Wm. C. Cooper [[/underlined]] (colored):  that the school is supported wholly by freedmen:  that the apportionment of the school tax for colored people amounts to only $15 per annum:  that he has been requested by the patrons of the school to inquire if the Bureau will not aid in its support.

3.5.69. | 112 * West, Florence K.  Teacher | Poolsville, Montgomery Co Md.  March 2d 1869.  Encloses her school report.  Acknowledges receipt of box.  States that the teacher for Mt. Zion, should report to Mr. [[underlined]] Spencer. [[/underlined]]   Requests to have her salary sent per bearer.

4.9.69. | 113 * Wilmer, Wm. R. | Port Tobacco, Charles Co Md.  March 31st 1869.  Encloses letter signed by the colored school trustees of this place, requesting a charnge of teachers.  Mr. W. States that the school is not doing well under its present teacher, and hopes a good protestant teacher may be sent in her place.

4.16.69. | 114 * Watson, Mary E.  Teacher | Darlington, Harford Co Md.  April 1869.  States that her school was well attended during the winter, but the number is now becoming smaller as the working season advances:  that they have a fine school-house, but it is not furnished with seats, and they have to depend upon those belonging to the church, which are moved back and forth:  that the people desire a visit from the Supt. of Education &c. &c.
