Butler John H.

States that he reached St. Marys Co. on the 13th inst. and visited Miss [[underlined]] Gibson's [[/underlined]] School at Oakville, found the attendance rather slim: went to Millstone, one of the places of the which Capt [[underlined]] Lawrence [[/underlined]] said he could do nothing; held a meeting there, went out into the woods with them and helped get out sleepers & c. for their School House. States that he visited Miss [[underlined]] Grove's [[/underlined]] school and found it in a very prosperous condition. Second to none in the country. Then visited Miss [[underlined]] Bells [[/underlined]] school, also Miss [[underlined]] Gould's [[/underlined]] and Miss [[underlined]] Stowell's, [[/underlined]] all are in a prosperous condition. Miss [[underlined]] York's [[/underlined]] school at Great Mills is not very well attended. The teacher is active but the old people want stiring up. Mr. [[underlined]] Sawton's [[/underlined]] school is increasing but the old people

are not willing to take hold. States that the lumber for the house at "Tall Pine" is partly at the wharf and partly on the ground. - that he held a meeting there and has persuaded the people to put the house up at once. 

States that Miss [[underlined]] Cummings [[underlined]] is getting along tolerably well with her school, that he held a meeting at her school-house, and it seemed to cheer the minds of the people.

States that his present address is Prince Frederick, Calvert Co. Md.
