Chap. John Kimball:

Dear Friend:

The Martinsburg Commission said they could not support this school - insisted on having help. The school has cost us [[strikethrough]] from [[/strikethrough]] about one hundred and forty dollars more than we have received from them.

I made out the schedules according to directions. We have no deed, but we supposed the Act of Congress made the buildings ours - that the deed was the evidence rather.

I have no blank schedules.

I have been informed that Gen. Howard had promised to the Associations $10. per month for each teacher, but how it was to be obtained I only knew from Mr. Smiths directions.

I wish I could know when I should be likely to find Gen. Howard at home.

Very Sincerely Yours,
