encouraging to me, and no doubt you are likewise delighted to think that the cause you are laboring for, is attended to with so much zeal, by the Freedmen of Leonardtown.  And, that although you labored both mentally and Physically to promote the Education interest of the black man, your labors will not be in vain.

I am trying to instill into the minds of the old and young the usefulness of an Education, and the benifit to be derived thereby, and to impress upon there minds the evils of disapation and the final result it will end to, if allowed to take absolute posession of their minds, bodies, and souls.

I have had two meetings on the important question of

being self surporting, and of forming a society, whereby they may benifit themselves, both in worldly goods, and self surporting industry.  I have a splendid sabath school, but religious predudice prevails to a great extent, and the majority are so predudiced that it was very hard to convince the minority that the "Yankees"—were not predudiced against them on account of Religion.

I am highly pleased with the school and with the people.  Everything is very nice board, lodging, washing in fact everything.  I shall write soon again
