(June 20) Page 3 - There is the importance of keeping peace among the tribes and keeping all in love with the idea. And we know the Indian temperament - he does not favor restraint nor blossom under it. Yet how much shall we sacrifice when unity of design is at stake? Such a careful confab was that! And the naughty boys who spread out + let their designs wander all over the place won out - it seemed to us the huge things were [[strikethrough]] n't bad [[strikethrough]] better - and it ended in compromise really. And then what should next shock our correct notion of things but that all figures on that side of the room were dancing, sitting or standing facing the same way! Our attempts to plan this little matter had been as nothing - We could not have another argument today and maybe - who knows - they might be right enough. And after all this is their dining room + [[insert]] they and [[insert]] we are all learning from it. We did not get home till seven - and were dead. But fresco cartoons must be prepared.
