Sir-

In compliance with the regulations of the Museum, I have the honor to submit the following report, for the month ending January 31st 1882, upon the affairs in the "Section of Bird Skeletons-"

As far as I can learn all of the bird skeletons forming a part of the collections of the U.S. National Museum, with the exception of those that are mounted and on exhibition, have been deposited in a room in the east wing of the Smithsonian Institution, set aside for my use.

The greater part of this material is still in original packages, and very much in a condition as sent in by the various Collectors, so that at the present writing it will be impossible to give any idea, as to the number of skeletons
