Revenues from Federal Agency Grants and Contracts are expected to increase by $1.2 million to a level of $14.2 million, due primarily to support received by the Astrophysical Observatory from NASA for the High-Resolution Imager for the Roentgen satellite.

FY 1984 - Estimates (Schedule E)

--Federal Appropriations: Budget hearings were held before the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on March 16 and March 23 respectively. A second day of hearings is scheduled before the House Subcommittee in mid-April and will be attended by Mr. Humelsine. The Institution has submitted a request to the Office of Management and Budget to amend the FY 1984 budget request pending before Congress by the addition 48 guard positions being sought in FY 1983 and their full-year cost in FY 1984 of $720,000.

--Nonappropriated Trust Funds: FY 1984 Trust Fund estimates have not been changed for this report. Units are currently in the process of preparing detailed FY 1984 projections as part of the Institution's annual budget process. Consolidated FY 1984 budgets will be presented to the Board for approval at the August and September meetings.

Status of Belmont Sale
Sale of the Belmont Conference Center and its surrounding land to the American Chemical Society (ACS) and to the State of Maryland is, at long last, approaching completion. While conclusion of the sale had been anticipated earlier in the year, delays have been encountered in obtaining state and county approval for necessary road access to the Conference Center over state land as well as in defining the final terms for the historic conservation easement being placed on Belmont House.
