Washington, D.C. Commitments from members of the National Board of the Smithsonian Associates now total $2,060,850. The last currently scheduled regional Quadrangle function was held in Minneapolis on July 28 and local follow-up action is being organized there and in the other cities where Quadrangle presentations have been made. Additional regional functions will be planned for later in the year.

A proposal for program support in the amount of $1,00,000 has been sent to the Cafritz Foundation and a proposal for $5,000,000 to support an Islamic Center in the Quadrangle has been submitted to the Faisal Foundation in Saudi Arabia. Action will be implemented to approach major American corporations and foundations at the time of the September meeting of the National Board of the Smithsonian Associates, enlisting continued Board member involvement. Efforts will continue with prospective individual large gift donors throughout the remainder of the Campaign period and a number of excellent prospects are still to be solicited. Secretary Ripley is expected to make approaches in behalf of the Quadrangle at the time of his visit to Southeast Asia this autumn. Plans call for the Secretary to make Quadrangle contacts in Pakistan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Indonesia and the Philippines. The Secretary may also be returning to the Middle East before the end of the calendar year.
