We the Undersigned Trustees of Tall Pine School - No. 1 - do hereby respectfully solicit our Teacher, James H. Brooks, Esq., to present this humble Memorial to our various friends in Washington - for the purpose of getting them to assist us in carrying on our School in a proper manner, and consequently emerge out of the dark precincts of two and a half centuries of unwilling and coerced ignorance, which we have patiently undergone, yea, almost without a murmur. We are not competent to understand the most trivial laws - let them be Divine or otherwise - We have poor, destitute Widows' and their Children, poor orphans, Parents, with large families in extremely [[underlined]] low [[/underlined]] Circumstances - All anxiously looking up to their friends for pecuniary support in regard to the promotion and effusion
