3rd. "Review of researches prosecuted upon material belonging to the department, with references to all reports published by the Curator and his associates, and to papers published by others upon material belonging to the department".

No papers have been published by the Curator or his assistant. Prof.E.D.Cope has been employed by the Smithsonian Institution on some special work, and has been busy all the past wint^[[e]]r[[strikethrough]] e [[/strikethrough]] on the MSS. of the "Manual of Herpetology" prepared by the Curator; the report of the Batrachia of North America has been completed by Prof.Cope, to page 650 inclusive. He has also identified all the undetermined Batrachia in the Reptile Room, and has identified and described the collections made by the various correspondents of the Institution in Mexico, Central and South America.
