[[/strikethrough]] An order was received during the year, to transfer temporarily the department of reptiles from the west basement of the Smithsonian building, in order that that part of the building [[strikethrough]] could [[/strikethrough]] might be renovated.  The specimens were all carefully removed, and stored in cases temporarily erected, in the basement hall of the main portion of the Institution.  The Curator's office [[strikethrough]] of the department, [[/strikethrough]] was removed to, and now occupies, the south-front room on the ground floor, in the brick building [[strikethrough]] a few yards [[/strikethrough]] west of the Smithsonian. [[strikethrough]] known as the Laboratory, but commonly called the "stable." [[/strikethrough]]

It is to be hoped, that when the department again moves into its old quarters, they will be enlarged and improved, for the rapid growth of the reptile collection in the last few years, requires much more
