the Board of Regents recognize his extraordinary contributions by designating permanently the balcony room on the third floor of the Hirshhorn Museum Building as the Abram Lerner Room.  The only gallery in the building that looks outward onto the National Mall and the city beyond, and a favorite gathering place for museum visitors wishing to pause and reflect before resuming their tours, this space would be a quiet and unobtrusive reminder of the man who, as much as Mr. Hirshhorn himself, created the Museum for all to enjoy.

Accordingly the following resolution was adopted:

VOTED that, in recognition of his devoted and tireless efforts as founding Director in establishing the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden as a major bureau in the constellation of the Smithsonian Institution, the Board of Regents hereby designates in perpetuity the balcony room of the Hirshhorn Museum Building as the Abram Lerner Room.

[[underlined]] Cooper-Hewitt Museum Capital Improvements [[/underlined]]

The Secretary reported that following the Regents' Audit and Review Committee spring 1982 visit to the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, plans for the renovation of Miller House and construction to link Miller House with the Carnegie Mansion have moved forward.

As reported in the July 1982 Newsletter, the architectural firm of Hardy, Holzman Pfeiffer Associates was engaged to prepare conceptual and schematic design plans for the expansion of the Museum.  A final conceptual design for the proposed project has been presented to the Cooper-Hewitt Advisory Council, the Secretary, and his executive staff.  Presentation is
