February 1984. A search for the Assistant Director of the Sackler Gallery of Art is still in progress. The search committee, chaired by John Reinhardt, is scheduled to meet in January 1984 to consider a list of ten qualified candidates for the position.

Nine major Smithsonian bureaux were visited by the Director of Equal Opportunity and the Director of Personnel to discuss affirmative recruitment strategies for professional positions. Each of the nine bureaux made commitments to make a special effort to recruit affirmatively. Recent results include the National Portrait Gallery hiring a minority GS-15 Assistant Director and the National Museum of American History selecting three minority Historians.
