Esteemed Friend
[[ stamp RECEIVED PRIVATE SEP 26 1868]]
Thinking it would not be unpleasant to thee to hear, briefly of the meeting, the colored people of this place and vicinity, held in a grove about two miles south of this, on 4th day, Wednesday, the 23d inst in commemoration of the Emancipation Proclamation, I have concluded to make some observations in my weak way, as I was an eye-witness. There were supposed to be some 500 present, which was a very small number, compared with what would have been, had the morning not have been so unfavorable.
