Educational Meeting - Gen. C.H. Howard, Rev Mr. Kimball and Capt. J.C. Brubaker of the Freedmen's Bureau, visited this city on Friday last, on a tour of inspection, and held educational meeting of the colored people, at the Mary Hoye School House, on Independence street, on Friday night, which was largely attended by both white and black. The meeting was presided over by Col. Robert Bruce, and addresses were delivered by Gen. Howard and Mr. Kimball.
We learn that the day and night school under the charge of Miss Sophia M. Hope is in dangerous [[best guess]] condition, and has an attendance [[smudged out]] seventy-five scholars. We have [[smudged out]] informed that the colored people proposed holding a festival on [[smudged out]]onday, at their school house for the purpose of raising funds for the benefit of their school.
