States in reply, that he knows [[underlined]] Daniel I. Thomas,[[/underlined]] and has no confidence in his integrity or capacity:  that his reputation for veracity is bad:  that he will ascertain and inform whether he is really teaching or not.  Thinks a good colored teacher would be preferable to Thomas.
