The Smithsonian Institution is a founding member of the Chesapeake Research Consortium, which was established in 1971. The CRC serves to coordinate research activities among Bay-related institutions, as well as submitting proposals on behalf of member institutions to agencies such as the NSF.

Darwin Foundation of Galapagos Islands     $30,000
The Smithsonian Institution is a founding member of the Charles Darwin Foundation. Since 1966, the Institution has maintained a research table for use by Smithsonian scientists who have done research in the Galapagos Isles. The Foundation maintains a research station that serves as a base for our scientists investigating the physical and biological parameters of this unique biota.
