produce, distribute, and promote 13 half-hour programs as a semester telecourse for use by upper level college students and continuing education viewers across the country. A half-hour pilot program for the series features Edmund Morris, Pulitzer prize-winning author of [[underline]]The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt,[[/underline]] in a conversation with series host/interviewer Marc Pachter, historian at the National Portrait Gallery. The Smithsonian Office of Telecommunications will now weigh the option of redesigning the proposal as a television series without telecourse aspects, which aspects seemed least pleasing to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. As a television series, THE ART OF BIOGRAPHY could be a valuable contribution to general public television.
