reptiles, but he has done no work in the department. However, the collection made by the naturalists of the U.S. Fish Commission steamer "Albatross" during her cruise round Cape Horn was identified by him and reported upon, but the material has not been returned as yet. 

Dr. G. Baur, late of Yale College, was given an opportunity to work up the collection of Chelonians with special reference to the North American species. He left Washington, however, before the task was completed.
