Owing to the fact that a vast material belonging to the museum is at present in Professor Cope's possession in Philadelphia, it has been found impossible to give an accurate census of the herpetological specimens of the museum.

In preparing the following estimates, that of last year has been taken as a basis, deducting those specimens which have been disposed of by exchange, or otherwise, and adding the number of those catalogued during the year. Such an estimate would show the status of the collection on June 30, 1891, to be as follows: -
