approved at the May 7, 1984 meeting of the Board; a permanent increase in the level of proposed transfers to Unrestricted Endowment Funds to $3,000,000; and funds towards the necessary conversion expenses involved in the acquisition of a new IBM mainframe computer ($500,000). There is also an increase of $442,000 in the Fellowship Program representing inflationary allowances and several new fellowships, in particular for American Indian applicants. In addition, $300,000 is planned for transfer to Plant Funds primarily for land acquisition at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center.

[[underline]] Special Purpose Trust Funds [[/underline]] include a) bureau activities such as the NASM Theater and membership programs and other fund-raising activities of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum; b) bureau discretionary funds derived from revenue-sharing transfers from central auxiliary activities, interest on fund balances, Zoo parking revenues, and other miscellaneous income; and c) unrestricted fund transfers designated for fellowships, the Collections Acquisition, Scholarly studies and Educational Outreach Program, the new Special Exhibitions Program, Fluid Research, and Smithson Society awards. The overall level of revenues is expected to increase slightly over fiscal year 1984, while the level of expenditures and transfer will increase more substantially due to the spending of the new Special Exhibitions fund.

The Board's approval is requested to increase the level of ticket prices for the National Air and Space Museum's Theater and Spacearium to $1.50 for adults and $.75 for children from the present $1.00 and $.50 levels. The last price increase (from $.50) was approved by the Regents in 1980. Since then inflationary pressures have continued to the point where the Museum is unable to generate sufficient reserves (after operational expenses) for future film production, as well as for certain other related
