March 28th 1870 Sir: I acknowledge the receipt of $18.82/100 of as balance of salary for Jan & Feb. The size of the school warrants the necessity of an assistant until the close of the term vacation The lowest [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] estimate number of scholars at any one time since the 1st of Jan has been 50 & as the total enrollment is 75 as those of the pupils who follow oystering has been steadily in attenance owing to the many rains & cloudy days; which makes it an impossibility to do justice to all.
